Willys introduced the Jeepster in 1948. Created during World War II by Brooks Stevens, its open, touring car design, barrowed basic styling from the Jeep. In its initial year of production Willys produced a total of 10,326 examples of the Jeepster.
This beautiful 1948 Willys Jeepster has benefitted from a meticulous frame-off restoration. The car is presented in Luzon Red with a gray canvas top and new side curtains. It rides on thin whitewall tires which are mounted on steel wheels with factory hubcaps. Additional exterior features include professionally re-chromed front and rear bumpers; step plates for passengers to access the rear seats and a rear-mounted spare tire.
The Jeepster is powered by a rebuilt 134-cid, L-head “Go-Devil” four-cylinder engine which features a new water pump, as well as a rebuilt carburetor and fuel pump. The engine is paired to a three-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The transmission features a new clutch, pressure plate and release bearing.
Interior features include an AM radio, a rebuilt heater as well as front and rear bench seating completed in burgundy leatherette. The convertible top mechanism was completely rebuilt, which included new front and rear oak bows. All gauges are reported to work perfectly. The entire vehicle has benefitted from a complete rewiring utilizing an OEM harness. A new NAPA 6-volt battery has also been installed in the Jeepster.
The attention to detail on the restoration is very impressive. One would be hard-pressed to find a better Jeepster from its initial year of production.
