  • A superb Sting Ray with numbers-matching engine
  • Originally Ermine White, now Rally Red over a red vinyl interior

  • Retains its original L79 327-cu.-in. V-8; four-speed manual gearbox
  • Extensively documented with receipts dating from the 1980s

The year 1965 was pivotal for the Chevrolet Corvette, most notably with the introduction of the model’s 396-cubic-inch big-block V-8. While this new engine was undeniably powerful, it brought additional weight, which impacted the Corvette’s handling and agility—a significant shift for those who favored the nimble characteristics of the earlier small blocks.

For these enthusiasts, the L79 327-cu.-in. V-8 was an excellent alternative. It produced a respectable 350 horsepower and was well regarded for delivering impressive performance while avoiding the more demanding maintenance requirements of high-rpm setups. Paired with the Corvette’s new standard four-wheel disc brakes, the L79 offered a satisfying blend of performance and drivability, making it a compelling choice for those who wanted the thrill of high performance with a more manageable driving experience.

With a total of 23,564 units sold, 1965 became the most successful sales year for the Corvette up to that point. The combination of aesthetic refinement, enhanced comfort, and performance upgrades ensured the 1965 Sting Ray's place as a cherished model in Corvette history.

Finished in Rally Red over red vinyl interior, this stellar 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible has importantly been confirmed to retain its numbers-matching L79 V-8 engine, the number for which mirrors that of the chassis. Originally finished in Ermine White, the car was treated to a full, two-year restoration completed in 1993 by the eight-time Pebble Beach Concours-winning firm, RM Auto Restoration of Chatham, Ontario. Almost 100 accompanying invoices, dating from the 1980s, testify to the dedicated care this car has received over the last four decades. Desirably equipped with a four-speed gearbox, tilt-telescopic steering column, AM/FM radio, and power antenna, it remains in presentable condition with gentle patina throughout and has benefited from the consignor’s conscientious 14 years of ownership.

Handsome and well-specified, this Corvette Sting Ray Convertible is ready to delight its next caretaker with the formidable power and performance of its original L79 V-8 engine.
