Length: 27.5 in. (70 cm)
This delightful weathervane depicts an early American touring car from circa the first decade of the 20th century. Constructed of beaten copper, it features a detailed driving lamp, steering wheel, and front and rear wheels and mud-guards, and it is attached to a T-shaped support on a simple mounting bracket.
When the automobile was first introduced, these types of weathervanes could be found atop service stations, garages, and repair shops. See Bishop & Coblentz: A Gallery of American Weathervanes and Whirligigs; plate 180.
