In 1978 a brand new 911 model was introduced in the form of the Porsche 911SC. The 911SC was more refined, more driver friendly, more dependable and still out-performed every other car in its class. The 911SC was Porsche's avenue to a more encompassing range of owners. It was designed to attract not only on-the-edge sport driving enthusiasts, but also to the rather gentler sport touring genre.

The SC, which stands for "Super Carrera" was destined to be the last of the model 911 line as the all-new front-engined V-8 Model 928 was to take over as the flagship for the 1979 model year, but this plan was not to be. The SC was built around the heartbeat of the classic 1974 Carrera 3.0 Turbo, an engine design that could be further tuned for performance and still be deemed practically “bulletproof.”

Presented in silver with black interior, this Porsche 911SC Targa is reported as an original “well-kept, clean car that runs and drives well.” The interior is also said to be in excellent condition and the paint is well-preserved. The 2,993-cc, 172-hp horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine is mated to a five-speed manual transmission. The driving fun is enhanced when you remove the Targa top and have the pleasure of open air driving with the security of the targa-based rollbar and fixed rear window. Additional features include black and polished Fuchs wheels, power four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, Blaupunkt stereo with cassette player, VDO instruments, air conditioning; power windows and steering.

Reliable sources show that in 1980, Porsche built 3,603 911SC Targa’s plus an additional 5,010 911SC Coupes.
