According to information provided by the consignor, this 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air Convertible (nick-named “Miss Daisy”) has a story that begins at a medical convention in Tarrytown, New York in late 1956. A husband and wife, in a town for the convention, visited the local Chevrolet factory to order a new 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible. They had two requests; first they wanted the car painted in Inca Silver, second they wanted the entire car painted in Inca Silver as to better conceal everyday road dirt. The only problems were that the car was originally designed for a two-tone paint scheme and that Inca Silver was a color destined for the 1957 model year, not 1956. Since the 1956 model year production was near its end, the factory accommodated the unique requests.

It is, according to the owner, the only one known of this model year that is painted from the factory in code 752 Inca Silver and the only time Chevrolet used that paint when it was not presented on a two-tone scheme. The owner also reports; to demonstrate the unique status of this car, the factory installed the gold chevrons on the rear quarter panels upside down. The owner conveys that “all of the Chevy experts said there is no way it could be a true, solid silver, until they see the cowl tag and original build sheet found under the rear seat when the frame-off was done.”

This vehicle has experienced only three owners. The woman who originally bought it then sold it to a friend – this family had a meticulous frame-off restoration performed in 1994. During this restoration, the engine and transmission were rebuilt – and according to the restorer, the mileage is correct. A few years later it was sold to the current owners.

The Bel Air convertible is powered by a 265-cid, 170-hp V-8 engine and is mated to the optional Powerglide transmission. According to the original paperwork from the Montclair, New Jersey dealership paperwork, many features were requested on this outstanding car. This includes Continental kit, deluxe wire wheel covers, door handle shields, exhaust extensions, rear fender skirts, front fender shields, tinted glass, body sill molding, back up lights, vanity mirror, glove box light, electric clock, deluxe heater and defroster, power steering, power top, tissue dispenser (now converted to house a Kenwood CD player), dual rearview mirrors, radio, rear antenna and seat belts. The Bel Air now rides on Coker Classic whitewall tires. This special car has been kept in a climate-controlled environment.
