Founded by George M. Hendee and Oscar Hedstrom, the Indian Motorcycle Company traces its roots back to 1901 in Springfield, Massachusetts. The first Indian Chief was produced in 1922. Chief production ran through 1953, at which time the company went out of business. The only break in Chief production was during WWII. Numerous unsuccessful revival attempts were made throughout the years, but by the early 2000s the company was once again back on its feet producing retro-styled motorcycles.
This 2000 Indian Chief is reported to be in stock configuration. It is presented in two-tone blue and white paint scheme. It really gives the motorcycle a great retro-look. The motorcycle is powered by a 75-hp, four-stroke V-twin engine which is paired to a five-speed transmission. The rear wheel is driven by a belt final drive system. The Indian’s engine is air-cooled and has an electric start. Braking is accomplished by front and rear disc brakes.
