The Harley-Davidson XR-1000 was brought on by consumers demanding a street-legal version of the XR-750 race bike. The XR-1000 cost almost twice the amount of an entry level Sportster XL, which led to less than anticipated sales figures. This 1983 Harley-Davidson XR-1000 Sportster is reported to be in stock configuration in original slate gray. The motorcycle is powered by a 998-cc, 70-hp, air-cooled V-twin engine which is paired to a four-speed transmission with a chain final drive. The engine features 9:1 compression and has electronic ignition and start. The Harley-Davidson rides on Dunlop Qualifier tires which are slowed to a stop via front and rear disc brakes. Period advertising displayed a top speed for this bike of 115-mph. Vinnie primarily showed this bike at shows and events as well as at the Petersen Museum. This was a limited production model, with one source stating there were roughly 1,000 examples produced in 1983.
