The “pony car” created a new class of automobiles in America, which gave rise to competitors from such automotive rivals as Chevrolet, AMC and Chrysler. Production began in 1965, and the Mustang quickly became an iconic car that captured the public’s imagination. The 1968 model did not have any drastic changes from the previous year. The Mustang had provided a formula that the public fell in love with.

Offered here is a special and highly-original Mustang fondly named “Vivian,” and “she” is well-recognized in the Southern California Ford and Mustang circles by that moniker and the California black plate that includes the “VIV” prefix which announces her arrival. Vivian is reported as an original Mustang hardtop coupe with approximately 68,500 caring miles. It is finished in Brittany Blue with a matching Blue knitted interior. The interior is quite uncommon in that it is one of approximately 125 similar cars fitted with a front bench seat; the car also features its original carpet and seatbelts. The Mustang is generously equipped with desirable factory Selectaire conditioning, power steering, tinted glass and Philco AM radio. The engine is a strong 289-cid V-8 matched to a floor-mounted shift three-speed C-4 Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The car is riding on stylish thin whitewall tires and has factory full wheel covers.

The accompanying Deluxe Marti Report illustrates that “Vivian” was built at the San Jose Ford facility on January 12, 1968, two days behind schedule, and it further shows that this 1968 Mustang Hardtop is a true one-of-one car based on its eclectic grouping of finishes, appointments and options. The Mustang was delivered to Holmes Tuttle, Inc. on Beverly Boulevard in Los Angeles and was bought by Martha Livingston on January 29, 1968. Ms. Livingston was very precise in the caring of her car, and the Mustang is accompanied by two large volumes of documentation that shows her loving devotion to the car for a number of years. In these binders, you will find the order sheet, original window sticker, build sheet, dealer warranty card, manuals, repair orders and service records “from day one” that are reported as complete for the period of ownership. It even has the first receipt for an oil change that totaled $2.75! Martha Livingston maintained this amazing collection regarding her prized car until her passing at age 95. The well-recognized car has been the winner of multiple car show first place awards that includes Beach City’s Mustang Club, Orange County Mustang Club, Tri-County Mustang Club and a “couple dozen" from non-Mustang specific clubs. Prominently among these awards is a Best of Show - Factory Stock from the Mustang Owner’s Club of California. To further add to the respect generated by this fine Mustang, Vivian was invited by Ford Motor Company, based on her sterling reputation of originality, to be in attendance at the unveiling of the 2015 Ford Mustang on December 5, 2013 at the world famous TCL (formerly Grauman’s) Chinese Theatre on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame. As recently as July 26, 2014, Vivian was shown in the "Downtown Burbank Car Classic" Impressively, out of 300 cars, she won the "Petersen Automobile Museum Preservation Pick." High honors, indeed.

Also included with Vivian are the original spare tire and aforementioned California black license plate. The car is presented in an outstanding (albeit not perfect) manner with a factory-correct detailed engine bay and is an overall very nice machine that shows small signs of spirited use with a documented “resume” that makes it stand out from the crowd. This fabulous car is ready for many more years of enjoyment and will allow you “to break away from the look-alike pack!”
