In period, when you saw this model of Mercedes-Benz in movies and on television, the 450SL was shorthand for people who had “arrived.” They were often portrayed pulling up to the finest restaurants and shops, or driving down palm-lined boulevards. Its solid reputation translates to the driving experience; at speed the car is light on its feet and well controlled, plus the firm seats are wonderful on long trips.
Along with the steady 4.5-liter V-8 engine the car is equipped with many factory standards such as air conditioning, power windows, burl-wood accents and the indestructible MB-Tex interior. Few options were available, and this example also has both the hardtop and soft -top included in the sale, while the odometer reads 72,308 miles.
