On offer is this well-built and cross country driven recreation of the Regg Schlemmer Class “C” Roadster that was pictured on the cover of the very first issue of ‘Hot Rod Magazine’ dated January 1948. This car has travelled approximately 19,000 miles, including a cross country round trip from California to Kentucky for the Street Rod Nationals. The car is reported to operate and function as one expects. The paint and leather have a beautiful patina that allows for it to be quite presentable at shows, but makes driving enjoyment agreeable, as you are not waiting for the first flaw to appear.

The machine is professionally built with a hand-fabricated and “Zee’d” chassis, the nose is a custom track 1932 shell with a fiberglass body from Speedway Motors. The engine is a tuned-port injection TPI 305-cid V-8 that is chipped and with Cadillac CTS injectors, plus cold-air intake with filter. The transmission is a 700R four-speed automatic with a custom Lokar shifter. The all-chromoly rollcage is SCTA-inspired and includes a rollbar and down-tubes to the floor. The roadster has custom-fabricated Corvette disc brakes, a Lincoln posi-traction rear end with coil-overs and a four-link setup that makes for great handling. The side-pipe exhaust and abundant hood louvers are appropriate period details. The exterior vents are fabricated from Stromberg carburetor intakes.

The red leather interior seating is very comfortable and is arranged to sit low in the cockpit. The carpet is also red and you find a custom telescopic steering column with a leather-wrapped sprint car-style steering wheel. Other prominent features include line-lock, and water nozzles hidden in the nerf bars. This is arguably the finest representation of the famed 1948 ‘Hot Rod’ cover car available. Many pieces of associated memorabilia are to accompany the car, including an original copy of the first 1948 ‘Hot Rod Magazine”, itself valued at nearly $1000.
