1,397-cc, 158-hp turbocharged inline OHC four-cylinder engine, five-speed manual transmission, torsion bar independent front suspension, trailing arm rear suspension with torsion bars and four-wheel power disc brakes

Renault’s R5 Turbo was not a front-wheel drive pocket rocket; it was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Although built in an R5 shell, mechanically the car was completely different. Power came from a 1,397-cc turbocharged “Cléon” engine, installed amidships behind the driver’s seat. In standard form it delivered 158-hp; the first 400 cars were homologated for FIA Group 4 racing.

A second version, Turbo 2, was introduced, using the same drivetrain, but more standard R5 parts. This brilliant red Turbo 2 was originally owned by Donald Koszyk. In excellent condition throughout, it shows fewer than 35,000 miles. The desirable alloy-roof model, it is as nimble as a Corvette and twice as much fun.
