Chassis no. 8R93J512117
302-cid, 230-hp OHV V-8 engine, three-speed automatic transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and front disc, rear drum power hydraulic disc brakes. Wheelbase: 111-inches.
Introduced in 1967 to give Mercury a toehold in the pony car field, a segment created by sibling model Mustang, the Cougar gained an upscale XR-7 model mid-year. Essentially a trim package, it offered the same drivetrain options as the basic model.
This 1968 XR-7 coupe is a very low mileage example, showing barely 26,000 miles. It has the 302-cid four-barrel engine and automatic transmission, along with power steering, brakes, air conditioning, an AM radio and door edge guards. Gold with a black vinyl top, it is in presentable original condition throughout.
