Ferruccio Lamborghini was an Italian industrialist best known for manufacturing tractors. In 1963 he embarked on automaking with Automobili Lamborghini, concentrating on high-end sports cars. Unlike rival Enzo Ferrari, he did not indulge in motor sports.

Lamborghini’s Espada, a grand tourer in the Italian idiom, was derived from the Marzal show car that appeared at Geneva in 1967. Designed by Marcello Gandini of Bertone, the Espada’s name means “sword” in Portuguese and Castilian, evoking the thrill of the bullfight. A true four-seat car, it was produced for ten years, during which time 1,217 were built, the most successful Lamborghini to that time.

This Espada is attractive in dark metallic blue. Contours, paint and brightwork are all very good. The tan leather seats show some use, but are entirely presentable, as is the matching dashboard. The engine compartment and undercarriage are both very clean. Equipped with power windows, a clock and Alpine stereo system, the car runs on Pirelli P5 Cincurato tires in the 215/70VR15 size. A very desirable Italian grand tourer, it will appeal to enthusiasts with an eclectic bent.
