The 1963 Chevrolet Impala was one of General Motors’ most recognizable creations with its distinctive body style with crisp lines and pointed front and rear fenders. This style emphasizes the long, low slung car design popular in the early 1960s. The rear taillight panel was aluminum, and was surrounded by a chrome border with the engine-turned surface. A “409” big-block motor, with high compression (11.0:1), and a factory installed “four on the floor” gearbox are essential elements of making the 1963 Chevy Impala SS convertible a true muscle car. Factory upgrades included the use of a solid-lifter camshaft, larger 2.19-inch diameter intake valves and an aluminum intake. For those who opted for the high-performance versions of the 409, optional gearboxes included the wide- or close-ratio four-speed. The 1963 Impala featured all-new body style, with more obvious updates to the front end and rear taillamp area. Also updated was the straightened A-pillar, eliminating the previous year's use of a wrap-around windshield. Outside additions included SS overlays on the rear fender emblems, more simulated engine-turned treatment for the side molding inserts and the aforementioned wheel covers. Other options included a tachometer, power top, and power steering.

This 1963 Chevrolet Impala SS Convertible has just traveled a little over 43,000 miles and underwent a cosmetic restoration in the early 2000s, which included new black paint and new chrome. The interior is original and in fantastic shape, while the white top has been replaced. This particular model is fitted with the optional dual antennas, power steering and power top. Shortly after restoration, the car was placed in storage for roughly 10-years before the current owner acquired the car and put her back on the road. Such repairs and enhancements included a new transmission, clutch, plus throw-out bearing and transmission mounts with warranty. The car also benefited from a minor tune-up and fluids change and new battery. The car runs and drives like new. Sit back, pop in the Beach Boys cassette, pull up to a red light and enjoy this “real fine 409!”
