In this piece, Alfredo De la María dramatically depicted the Aston Martin DBR1/300 of Sir Stirling Moss and the Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa of Wolfgang Berghe von Trips racing through city streets during the 1958 Targa Florio. Von Trips ultimately earned 3rd place at the legendary race, but Moss’ gearbox unfortunately failed after setting a new lap record, so he was unable to finish. The Targa Florio, held from 1906 to 1977, was famous for being one of the most exciting and grueling road races of the era. Due to his death months later, 1958 was the last year the Targa Florio was hosted by its founder, Vincenzo Florio.
