For the ’67 the upgraded Spitfire, was tagged as a Mark III Special wherein the previously employed finicky (and expensive) GP carbs were replaced in favor of a pair of the new, better mannered 932 Amal Concentrics. Further concessions, due perhaps to the quality of fuel and/or a means of de-stressing the engine, compression ratio was lowered from the previous 10.5:1 to 9:1. However the “bad boy” flame-red Spitfire did retain its stunning bodywork, humped back “racing” saddle and status as BSA’s fastest flyer.
Nicely restored, and from the Baker Collection, its odometer shows 3,694 miles and appears only in need of gas, oil and a charged battery to start “spitting fire” again.
