- Flagship Lamborghini of the Millennium

- First year for Murciélago

- Less than 1,100 miles

The work of Belgian designer Luc Donckerwolke, who was also responsible for the earlier Diablo and subsequent Gallardo, the Lamborghini Murciélago was introduced in 2002. In keeping with the company’s bullfighting theme, it was named for a fighting bull that survived 28 sword strokes in an 1879 Spanish event that saw the bullfighter sparing its life. The first new design in 11 years and the first under Volkswagen ownership, the Murciélago used a 6.2-liter version of the venerable V-12 that had been Lamborghini’s hallmark from the 1960s. The power package, including engine, transmission and rear differential, was located to the rear, with drive through a viscous coupler. The body, of carbon fiber and steel, was low and lithe and featured the storied scissor-type “Lambo doors.” This particular Murciélago shows just 1,098 miles and is equipped with a manual transmission. It has an in-dash television monitor as well as large 19-inch Savini wheels (20-inch at the rear). The interior is upholstered in black. Like all Murciélagos, its rear spoiler and air scoops are electromagnetically operated and deployed at high speeds to assist with stability and engine cooling. Performance is astronomical: zero to sixty in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.
