• Last of the hand-finished Mercedes-Benz

• Long-term, caring ownership

• Recently freshened

The successor to Mercedes-Benz’s great prewar touring cars and the postwar 300S, the 280SE 3.5 was the last in the line of hand-finished, elegantly appointed, powerful cars designed and built without regard for cost, priced to satisfy a wealthy and demanding clientele. From the body introduced in 1961 as the six-cylinder 220SE, steady development and refinement continued through the launch of the V-8 coupe and cabriolet in 1970. With the larger engine came a noticeable change in style, with the traditional Mercedes grille made 100 millimeters wider and placed 70 mm lower, giving the 3.5 models a more modern appearance.

This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5 Cabriolet has been a prized possession and favorite of the vendor for more than 15 years. Finished in the classic colors of Light Ivory (DB 670) with Chocolate Brown leather and Dark Brown (746) soft top, it has all the presence expected of a top-of-the-range Mercedes-Benz. An older restoration, it is still said to present very well after a freshening a little more than a year ago, which included buffing and polishing of the paint, refinishing the wood trim, reupholstering the interior and a comprehensive cleaning of the engine compartment. With air conditioning, the original Becker AM/FM radio and room for five, this Mercedes-Benz will transport passengers with incomparable style.
