The Drag Pak race model is designed for NHRA competition and is based on the Dodge Challenger SRT-8. The car is 1,000 pounds lighter than the street vehicle by eliminating major production components and systems. To accentuate the weight savings, they also feature added composite, polycarbonate and lightweight components designed for drag racing. The engine was repositioned to improve driveline angle and weight distribution. The 116-inch wheelbase was shortened by 1/2-inch. They also feature a front cradle with bolt-in crossmember and solid engine mounts.
"Big Daddy" Don Garlits is reported to have purchased the first drag race package car and has raced it in NHRA competition. The prototype cars shown at SEMA were built by MPR Racing of Michigan, who continue to modify the production cars as delivered from Chrysler. Currently, the "Drag-Pak" cars running in legal A/SA trim are running around the 9.7–10 second mark at 130- to140-mph in the quarter mile.
Reports showed approximately 90 were built; the tag on this car shows it to be number 91, so it was likely built near the end of such units produced. This rare factory Drag-Pak is being offered just as received from Dodge. The engine for this car is the 6.1-liter Hemi tunnel ram V-8 with manual transmission, but this is not a turn-key car, it is still in the factory wrapper. The body is primed and painted, it has a composite lift-off hood with functional scoop, lightweight drag race only front brake assembly, lightweight cooling module with fan, lightweight instrument panel assembly, special cable-operated throttle pedal and linkage, manual rack-and-pinion steering, polycarbonate door windows, front chin spoiler; and it has no windshield wiper assembly, HVAC, rear seat, power steering, underbody heat shields, fuel tank assembly or exhaust system. This Drag-Pak also has its proper identification plate with its unique serial number sequence.
The Drag-Pak Challenger is ready to be built to your specifications or keep it as is with future investment in mind by having an untouched factory Drag-Pak in your collection as time passes.
