Ford made a daring move in 1993, recognizing the competitiveness of the Mustang and creating, for the first time in years by an American manufacturer, a race-ready competition car that could be bought off the showroom floor and taken directly into competition. One of the first projects from Ford’s Special Vehicles Team established in 1991, the Cobra R broke new ground.

This is the 46th of 250 purpose-built factory racecars from 1995 with an SVT hand-assembled 351-cid V-8 engine producing 280-hp. Features include a heavy-duty five-speed, special four-wheel disc brakes and suspension, a fuel cell, a fiberglass hood, and a lightweight interior with no back seat. This one is virtually new, with some interior wrappings and only 892 careful miles plus documentation from Ford SVT and Ford Performance Group with Edsel B. Ford II’s signature on the later. Conveniences include air conditioning, radio; power steering and brakes on this rare Cobra R.
