The Model 19 Vagabond was built by Vagabond Coach Mfg. Co. of New Hudson, Michigan and was introduced in 1949 in response to the demand for a lower-priced travel trailer without sacrificing the features and quality that made Vagabond famous. They featured a welded steel framework with an all-aluminum skin, gas stove, electric refrigerator, plus screen doors and windows. The Vagabond Model 19 offered beauty, roominess and comfortable livability. Carefully engineered; the Vagabond was considered in period as the “choice for the most discriminating trailerists.” Styled with excellent taste, the appointments were expertly chosen for an overall harmony unmatched for trailer design at that point in time.
Described by the owner as “extremely rare,” this 1952 Vagabond Model 19 19-foot travel trailer began as a very nice original that the owners decided to submit to a complete restoration top-to-bottom in 2011. It looks fantastic, and has not been used since the restoration was completed. Great efforts were undertaken to keep everything original spec, from the working stove and refrigerator to the “Jack-Knife” sleeper sofa. The birch wood is 90-percent original and displays original-style beauty. The mattress is new and custom made, and it has never been used.
Further notable features on this teal-toned Vagabond include tilt-out windows, beautiful interior radius’ that create wonderfully comfortable spaces, lighting, color-keyed wheels and blackwall tires. Opportunities to acquire this vintage of Vagabond do not come along on a frequent basis; this provides a superb chance to secure an extraordinary piece of American vacationing history.
