Only of an occasional product can the statement be made that it has no serious rival; that it proudly stands alone in the highest expression of all that is good and desirable in its particular field. One such product – then as now – is certainly Cadillac. In 1946 this separation was definite and measurable.
When new, the 1946 Cadillac Series 61 Sedan was Cadillac’s most popular car. It offered the supreme combination of superb quality and practical economy. The interior treatments were by Fleetwood. Standing out spectacularly in the interior were newly styled radio/dash area grille-type trim and an electric clock.
This nicely executed “woodie” modification not only is displayed on the body sides, it also extends into the rear decklid area. The Series 61 has been fitted with a modern air conditioning unit and also has modernized wiper activation. Dual spotlights have the Cadillac tag on their top ornamentation, plus the car shows that it is fitted with a modernized cooling system. It is driven by the Cadillac L-head 346-cid V-8 engine, which is matched to a manual transmission. It is also equipped with a radio, rear fender skirts, Cadillac hood ornament (which when tipped back, releases the hood catch), “sombrero” hubcaps and Coker Classic whitewall tires. Along with the always popular “woodie” fashioning of the bodywork, the car has unmistakably Cadillac grille, trim elements and taillights.
Bumper to bumper, it is in every inch a Cadillac, Standard of the World.
