One defining event of 1950s American car culture was GM’s traveling Motorama, a no-holds-barred display of dazzling technology and exquisite styling. A series of dramatic styling exercises captivated the public—but most were not for sale. Three very special cars were made available for purchase by General Motors by a lucky few that could afford the startling price tags and who also had the influence needed to secure one. They were the Oldsmobile Fiesta, the Buick Skylark and the Cadillac Eldorado; all three models are coveted by collectors today. Ownership of all three is effectively considered a “Triple Crown” in the hobby.

The rarest of all the Motorama cars was the Fiesta, with just 458 examples built. It was a stunning design, often highlighted by attractive two-tone paint schemes; this particular offering goes against this presentation philosophy and is reported to be the only all-black factory produced Fiesta that was produced. The Fiesta pioneered several features at Oldsmobile, such as the wraparound windshield and spinner wheel covers. Like the other Motorama dream cars, the Fiesta was well-equipped, with leather interior, power steering and brakes, power windows and power seat. They were powered by the 303.7-cid, 170-hp Rocket overhead valve V-8 engine with a Hydra-Matic Super Drive four-speed automatic transmission.

The example offered here has been restored in its original color combination of Black (factory code 10) exterior, Black and Ivory interior (factory code 99) and black canvas soft-top. The Fiesta carries an AM radio, padded dash, Autronic-Eye, E-Z Eye tinted glass, factory wheel covers and whitewall tires.

This Fiesta has been prolific in the realm of judging and awards and has many successful meetings in its history that includes: AACA First Place Junior/Murfreesboro, Tennessee in June 1999; AACA National Senior/Newburn North Carolina in September 1999; First Place Oldsmobile Nationals/Denver, Colorado in July 2001 resulting in 970 of 1,000 available points being scored; Best in Class Oldsmobile Nationals/Minneapolis, Minnesota in August 2004 resulting in 991 of 1,000 points being scored; AACA Grand National First Place/Northglenn, Colorado in July 2005; and AACA Grand National Senior/Kalamazoo, Michigan in July 2007. This establishes a fine record that confirms the fine nature of this exclusive automobile.

Handsome…and then some; the 1953 Oldsmobiles were packed with power and loaded for looks. This car is set even further apart by being a historic, low-production example that is sure to please the collector who is looking for one of the most stylish convertibles of the era.
