This 1971 Volkswagen convertible offers the VW enthusiast the opportunity to acquire the best of two worlds, the retro styling of the earlier Beetles coupled with the upgrades of the Super Beetle – which debuted in 1971. While later Supers fashioned a more modern looking plastic dash, the 1971 models continued to carry over some of the styling from the 1970 model, such as the vintage steering wheel, metal dash, single pod speedometer and classic chrome bumpers. The iconic Volkswagen air-cooled engine enjoys 60-hp, which is more than required to move the stylish Karmann coachwork comfortably down the road. A four-speed manual transmission handles the transfer of power to the rear tires.
This car has been lovingly restored to a very high standard. The custom pearlized white paintwork is excellent and only shows modest signs of use and enjoyment. The interior is finished a complementary saddle and nearly every aspect of the interior is new. The engine bay is neat and tidy and completed in the same fashion as the balance of the automobile. The cloth saddle top is also newer and includes a VW glass back window. A boot cover is also included to secure the top for open air road touring. New items include a fresh tuneup by an air-cooled Volkswagen marque expert, brand new battery, wheel covers and weatherstripping. The horn, lights, wipers and aftermarket radio all work as designed. The top mechanism works very well and secures the cloth top properly in the closed position. This great example has only used for special occasions and lazy summer afternoon drives and is ready to be enjoyed by the new owner for many years to come.
