For the third year running, the Oldsmobile lineup received a bumper-to-bumper styling change. Company ad writers dubbed it the “linear look” as lengths grew ten inches from the previous model year. Interiors were also restyled with the most notable change being the Safety Spectrum Speedometer. Speed was indicated by a moving band of color – green from 0- to 35-mph, orange from 35- to 65-mph, and red for speeds over 65-mph. Visibility was improved, too, via a new Vista-Panoramic windshield. Riding a 126.3-inch wheelbase, Olds built 7,514 of the big 98 convertibles with a base price of $4,366; making it the most expensive model in its lineup by far.
This fabulously restored Oldsmobile 98 Convertible is exceptionally finished in its original teal-tone complemented by a white canvas soft-top and boot cover. The newer interior has been done in its original two-tone teal leather and is reported just as breath-taking as the gorgeous exterior presentation.
All of the chrome and stainless steel is in like-new condition, plus the fit and finish is exceptional. The Vista-Panoramic windshield gives you a clear view of all of your surroundings as you effortlessly travel. The unique options of the Transportable Radio (mounted in the glove compartment) and the Autronic Eye headlight dimmer add rarity to this well-appointed Oldsmobile.
Running with the powerful and smooth 394-cid, 315-hp V-8 Rocket engine mated to an automatic transmission makes this car eager to go and it looks it. With the lines of a champion, it’s fleet to the eye and low to the road and moves with steady grace and quiet assurance. Further equipped with factory air conditioning and Wonderbar radio, this jewel also features power top, windows, seats, antenna, steering and brakes.
