Historically significant, this 1964 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk is reported to be one of the last of the 1,767 Hawks manufactured in 1964—after which Hawk production ceased. The Studebaker has a black exterior with red individual vinyl seats—separated by a console-mounted gear shift connected to a three-speed Power Shift Automatic. It is equipped with a 289 cubic inch “R1” four-barrel V-8 rated at 240-hp. In addition to a full set of analog gauges, it also has an optional tachometer, located to the driver’s right, complementing the clock located on the driver’s left. Other features include power steering and brakes, heater, defroster and an aftermarket AM/FM with cassette player -- replacing the original unit in the middle of the dash. All equipment and gauges are operational except the speedometer and clock. The vehicle is also equipped with optional front disc brakes, P205/75R whitewall tires and full wheel, chrome spoke hubcaps.

This is a non-restored vehicle that has had at least one-repaint. While the paint retains a deep gloss it is marred by some minor blemishes. There is evidence of some door and possible body repair on the passenger side—with less than perfect door alignment and bubbling at the bottom edge of the door. Overall the chrome trim and bumpers are in good condition, with only some minor pitting and a few small dents in the side trim. Likewise the interior is in good condition and, although somewhat faded, there are with no rips or tears in the vinyl seat upholstery or dash pad. The vehicle comes with original plus NOS owner’s manuals, owner’s manual for the “Performer Series” carburetor, and a manual for the aftermarket radio/cassette player.

This GT Hawk was featured in a Revs/Escape Roads article that appeared in the September 10, 2007 issue of “Autoweek” magazine. Since 2006 it has been part of a museum collection and driven only infrequently. The vehicle starts and runs well, but since it has been part of a collection for the past six years the buyer is advised that it may require some degree of re-commissioning before placing it into routine service.
