This Edsel wagon is presented in original condition and is powered by a 332-cid V-8 engine with an automatic transmission. In an earlier point in time this car was given to General Holgar Toftoy on national television.

Holgar N. Toftoy was the first of the United States’ missile generals, widely acknowledged as the founder of the U.S. Army’s missile program, and just before he left active service he was presented with this Edsel. Ralph Edwards handed the general the keys to the car at the zenith of a “This Is Your Life” episode devoted to Holgar Toftoy’s contributions to this country and mankind. And the general the Army called then and today “Mr. Missile” drove the black and gold wagon off into retirement and out of the public eye. Mr. Missle didn’t keep the car long, but it was sold to a worker at the Redstone Missile Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama and after many years of every day service, it is being offered here.

As Chief of Army Ordinance Technical Intelligence teams, Holgar Toftoy brought Dr. Werner von Braun and his V-2 rocket colleagues to this country after World War II knowing that a new era had come and he moved quickly and decisively to make sure his beloved Army was in on the ground floor. Dr. von Braun would design the Apollo Saturn V that took man to the moon; General Toftoy died on 19 April 1967, at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
