In 1970, the Charger changed slightly from the year before and it would also be the last year of the second generation Charger. It featured a large wraparound chrome bumper and the grille was no longer divided in the middle. The taillights were similar to those used in ‘69, but the 500 and R/T models came with a new more attractive taillight panel. On the R/T, new rear-facing scoops with the R/T logo were mounted on the front doors, over the door scallops.

Interior changes included new high-back bucket seats, the door panels were also revised and the map pockets were now optional instead of standard. The SE “Special Edition” option added high-end luxury to a full on musclecar and was available as the 500 SE or the R/T SE, as offered today.

This maroon R/T Special Edition is an excellent example, and features the 440 “Magnum” engine coupled to a TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Complemented by correct white side stripes and white vinyl top, this R/T SE also features chrome bumper guards, and Magnum 500 wheels shod with period-style Goodyear Polyglas tires.

The interior is finished with tan leather bucket seats and matching upholstery and door panels, matching dash, floor console and steering column, along with handsome wood grain accent panels throughout. Additionally, this Charger includes a three-spoke steering wheel, power windows, and Rallye instrumentation with the 8,000-rpm tachometer and 150-mph speedometer. While the R/T was already an impressive machine, the addition of the SE package was the icing on an already beautiful cake!
