396-cid, 350-hp, OHV V-8 engine, three-speed Hydra-Matic 400 transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and front-disc, rear-drum power hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 108.1-inches

When the Camaro, Chevy’s pony car, was introduced in 1967, it had a range of engines even greater than competitor Mustang, from a 230 cubic inch six to 375-hp 396. During the golden age of Detroit muscle, 1968 to 1970, this was the largest engine available in a Camaro, although big Chevys could be ordered that year with a 390-hp 454.

This car has Chevy’s L34 350-hp Turbo-Jet 396-cid V-8 with Turbo 400 automatic transmission and Posi-Traction axle. The L34 had four-bolt mains, 10.25 to 1 compression, hydraulic lifters and a Holley four-barrel carburetor. The Turbo 400, GM’s strongest automatic transmission at the time, has a reputation of being bulletproof.

It has both Rally Sport and Super Sport equipment, the former comprising hidden headlights and special trim, the latter including the engine and power disc brakes.

In red with black RS stripe, it has excellent contours and paint, and exceptional brightwork. The top is black vinyl with a red boot, the interior in red vinyl. It has power steering, power brakes, windshield washers, console gauges, and a modern stereo with cowl antenna.

With one owner for 25 years before acquisition by Ed Ewing, it received a frame-up restoration. The engine compartment is immaculate, with chrome valve covers, correct hoses and hardware. The undercarriage is clean, the Rally wheels are mounted with Grand Am radial tires.

A multiple award winner, this is an excellent example of Camaro’s SS-396.
