Cadillac built an even 6,400 Series 62 convertibles for 1952, however this example was quite special, as it was purchased by country music legend Wynonna Judd.

As The Judds, Wynonna and her mother Naomi had charted 23 hit singles from 1983 to 1991. That year, hepatitis forced Naomi into retirement and Wynonna went solo, her studio albums “Wynonna” and “Tell Me Why” accounting for a number of top ten hits in 1992 and 1993. She bought this car from California in 1994 and brought it to her home in Nashville. In 1995, however, she encountered some backlash from fans who disapproved of her personal life.

This car, then, played a part in her comeback career, as it was restored in preparation for her marriage to Arch Kelley III, whom she had met on an airplane flight in 1993. A celebrity affair, the January 1996 wedding featured the Cadillac in its role as honeymoon car.

Repainted in the original black, it has a red interior in buttoned leather, all very presentable. The carpets are matching red with Cadillac crests. Contours, paint and brightwork are all excellent. The black convertible top has a matching boot. The engine compartment is clean and tidy, the engine itself in correct blue and detailed appropriately.

Well-optioned, it has power steering, power brakes, power windows, windshield washers, heater and a Selector signal-seeking radio. The tires are B.F. Goodrich Silvertown 8.20-15 whitewalls. It currently wears California year-of-manufacture license plates.

Included in the sale are some framed posters, a Tennessee title in Wynonna Judd’s name, and a handwritten bill of sale bearing both her signature and that of Arch Kelley at the time of the car’s acquisition by the Ed Ewing collection. Also included is a notebook of restoration details, honeymoon photographs and other autographed memorabilia.

Celebrity cars command a huge following. Seldom, though, do they commemorate life-changing events, or come with so much documentation.
