This 1970 Ford Maverick was built and driven by the legendary John “Big John” Bearce in his early years racing the Bonneville Salt Flats.
Big John tells us that this car was driven to a first place finish in its class at the Bonneville National 24th Annual Speed Trials. At a speed of 132.74 mph he came up just 1.7 mph short of setting a new world record in this car. Big John made numerous attempts at the Bonneville World Record in the years to follow, finally reaching his goal ten years later in 1982 when he set five international land speed records. Sold on a bill of sale.
