When introduced in 1961, the all-new Lincoln Continental set styling standards for American cars for years to come. The handsome, chiseled, slab-sided car with formal roofline was void of excess chrome in an era when domestic manufacturers lacked any semblance of restraint.
Designed by Elwood Engel, the Continental was more than a foot shorter than its predecessor and it was America’s first factory-built four-door convertible since before World War II. Quality control was exceptionally high on the unitized body which featured “suicide” opening rear-hinged doors that harkened back to pre-war coachbuilt cars.
The wheelbase was extended three inches to provide more interior room starting with the 1964 model. In 1966, styling was updated featuring curved side window glass and overall, a softer silhouette more akin to its sister Mercury. The interior received a new dash and mechanically, the Lincoln V-8 was upsized from 430 cu. in. to 462 cu. in. and power increased from 320 hp to 340 hp. A production run of 2,276 units marked the end for the four-door Continental Convertible in 1967.
This Lincoln Continental was once part of the noted Sam Pack Collection. It has been a consistent award winner in competition including consistent first place and best in class wins at Lincoln & Continental Owner’s Club events during the late-1980’s and early 1990’s. It was also an AACA National First Prize Winner during that time. The various trophies are included for the new owner as well as all factory manuals, documents, and books.
In addition, this Lincoln remains unrestored and is a preservation car in original, as received from the factory condition. It is finished in Powder Blue (Code F) over blue leather (Code 2B) and along with automatic transmission; electric clock; power steering, brakes, windows, antenna and convertible top; it is equipped with the optional factory air conditioning and AM-FM signal seeking radio.
