Ferrari had seen great success with the 250 GTE, which was their first production four-seat model, and its formal replacement - the 330 GT 2+2 - was sure to carry on the grand tradition of gentlemanly yet sporting motoring that the 250 GTE had started.
Cosmetically, the 330 GT 2+2 was quite different from the 250 GTE. The most noticeable change was to the front end, where the designers at Pininfarina had crafted a unique quad-headlamp nose, allegedly to appease the American market. Both the nose and the tail of the car were slightly more angular, and the nose bore a wider front grille to increase airflow to the engine.
Like the limited production 330 America that preceded it, the 330 GT 2+2 was fitted with a four-litre V-12 engine. Engineers extended the car’s wheelbase by two inches over the outgoing 250 GTE and fitted it with Koni adjustable shock absorbers in an effort to improve handling.
Sold through a dealer in Paris, France, this 330 GT 2+2 was originally specified in Rosso Cina over Nero Franzi leather. The Ferrari remained with its original owner until the mid-1980s, at which point it was sold to a second French owner. A 1996 purchase invoice in the accompanying history file notes that the 330 GT had already been painted grey by this time. Before selling the vehicle onward the owner undertook a rebuild of the original engine, noting that the engine had done less than 300 km since then. In 2005, chassis number 7029 left France and was sold to a new owner in Switzerland.
Purchased by Mr. Richoz in 2009 from the Swiss owner, the 330 GT 2+2 remained in his care until his passing. Undated invoices on file show that Mr. Richoz had a small amount of interior work completed during his ownership.
