- Purchased new by the Dell’Orto family, retained by them for forty years.
- Highly optioned and rare first-series, nine-seat, long wheel-base, manual-transmission G-Wagen
- Exceptional, unrestored and highly original car with just under 96,000 km from new
This unrestored, original nine-seater Mercedes GE 280 left the factory in December of 1980 and has always remained, until recently, with the Dell’Orto family, makers of the famous Dellorto carburetors. Its first Milano registration, however, dates back to 1983, when the car was registered directly to the multinational Dell’Orto company. This well-equipped Mercedes was used to reach the family’s mountain house in Switzerland from Milan with their children and grandchildren to go skiing. Due to its extraordinarily well-preserved condition, it is believed that the car has never been driven off road and was always garage kept. Today, 40 years later, it is still in remarkable condition and still wearing its original Milano black plates.
Extremely well equipped, this 280 GE features seating for nine people, cold air conditioning, power steering, seats upholstered in black Mercedes MB Tex synthetic leather, exclusive optional Isringhausen orthopedic driver's seat with variable cushioning and multi-position adjustable (in addition to the original Mercedes-Benz driver’s seat offered alongside), a very rare unused and original Rotzler ER 1500 winch with its metal data identification plate and original synthetic leather case that can be installed on front bumper with power outlet and remote control, rear ski rack, fog lights, original Blaupunkt Hi-fi system with adjustments on the dashboard, anti-theft system, roof rack, desirable double-leaf rear door, two keys and rare central locking system as well as an original Ellebi tow hook. It has been recently serviced and fitted with new Bridgestone Dueler H/T tires. Paperwork includes original manuals and various invoices from throughout its life.
Perhaps the most coveted and elegant model of the entire G range, with its powerful 2.8-litre petrol engine and impressive list of equipment to tackle the most extreme off-road conditions, or alternatively a comfortable ride down a country road, this superb long-wheelbase 280 GE, with its fascinating history and iconic styling is surely one of the very best examples there is.
