Forty years after the debut of the original GT500, Ford again teamed up the renowned Carroll Shelby to create the 2007 Ford Shelby GT500. With the famous Cobra emblem the only bit of brightwork on its blacked-out grille and a 500 horsepower, supercharged V-8 under the hood, it was to be the most powerful road-going, factory-produced Mustang at that time.
Finished attractively in white with nostalgic 1960s-style blue stripes over a black leather interior, this GT500 presents as a “time-warp” example with less than 250 actual miles from new and is accompanied by the original books. SVT and Shelby accents and badges are ever-present and leave little doubt to the car’s performance prowess. Shelby equipment includes machined factory aluminum wheels, domed hood with functional heat extractors, a front air splitter, and a ducktail-style rear spoiler. The comfortable interior features air conditioning, leather-upholstered sport bucket seats with Cobra logos, six-way power adjustments for the driver, a six-CD changer stereo with Shaker 1000 subwoofer in the trunk, cruise control, and power accessories.
With more power than any of the revered Shelby Mustangs of the 1960s, this 2007 GT500 offers performance that is nothing short of exhilarating. Just as its impressive specifications suggest, the Shelby GT500 accelerates with brutal power when the pedal is depressed. Though tame and comfortable under normal driving conditions, it is breathtakingly fast when called upon. Without a doubt, this ultra-low-mileage Shelby GT500 is an exceptional machine.
