Following decades of remarkable success on the racetrack and sales floor with its beloved four-cylinder sports cars, MG first experimented with six-cylinder power in 1967 with the release of the MGC, which neatly bridged the gap in BMC’s product line created by the demise of the Austin-Healey 3000. Available in both Roadster and GT Coupe form, the new model looked much like the MGB, aside from a pair of pronounced hood bulges and larger 14-inch diameter wheels. To accommodate the larger engine, however, the MGC front suspension eliminated the coil springs of the MGB in favor of a torsion bar and wishbone arrangement.

With 145 horsepower and plenty of torque on tap, the MGC was the most powerful car MG produced during the era, trumping even the later V8-equipped MGBs of the mid-1970s. Contemporary road tests revealed that while it was just one second quicker than its predecessor in the zero-to-60 mph sprint, the MGC offered a much higher top speed, exceeding 120 mph. An automatic gearbox was available, and in GT Coupe form, the MGC offered a slight performance edge over its Roadster sibling due to its improved aerodynamics. Production would only last three years however, with only about 9,000 examples ultimately built, including 4,449 GT coupes.

The 1969 MGC GT offered here, handsomely finished in black with matching upholstery piped red, was acquired by the current owner following completion of its restoration by a Pennsylvania-based MG specialist approximately six years ago. Since then, it has only seen extremely limited mileage and benefits from fastidious maintenance within the private collection of its current owner. In outstanding condition throughout, this rare MGC GT is complete with all tools and offers six-cylinder power to complement the timeless design of its predecessor.
