Nowadays it seems like most watch manufacturers try to claim sporting heritage, especially aligning themselves with motorsports. One of the first watch manufacturers to dominate timekeeping was Heuer, and naturally they became the watches of choice for many legendary racing drivers such as Juan Manuel Fangio and Steve McQueen.

This Chronograph Ref. 11.402 is a rare sport timer with a 17-jewel Valjoux 9 movement; on first glance it might seem like a normal Chronograph but it actually has a highly complex ‘Rattrapante’ movement which allows for two second functions, in essence a double chronograph. This movement is set within an aluminium case which is painted black with wonderful period hands and dial that are very evocative of the late ‘60s. This example has a lovely patina and shows consistent signs of age throughout the piece. Additionally, it is present with its original box. The Chronograph would make a wonderful piece for any vintage racing event or even on the dashboard of a fine historic car.
