The 1948 Pontiac Streamliner Deluxe Station Wagon is a unique vehicle as it is one of the last true woodies of the period for Pontiac and additionally 1948 was the last year for a flathead straight-eight and the first year for the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission for the company. This example carries the optional Hydramatic automatic transmission, 248.9-cid, 103-hp inline eight-cylinder engine and wheelbase of 122-inches. Streamliners were larger and more expensive than other Pontiacs; this particular one being a four-door Deluxe model which is distinguished by spear moldings on the front fender, bright gravel guards and a chrome-plated steering wheel.
Winning the Preservation and Survivor Class, the Pontiac offered here is a very original car throughout. It features whitewall tires and factory hubcaps, interior fan and dash-mounted compass, spotlights and foglights, as well as the clock and tissue dispenser. Most impressively all are virtually untouched. Complete in an attractive maroon with a tan interior, distinctively finished with wood framing and paneling on the sides of the car. Other than the replacement top, this is the perfect example of an original post-war woodie wagon.
