This company was founded in 1913 by Charles Young as the Flexible Sidecar Company in Loudonville, Ohio with eventual, and perennial, GM board member Charles Kettering joining in 1915 to become Flxible’s largest stock-holder and president from 1915-1940 and chairman from 1940 to 1958, the year of his death. Over the years Flxible produced some of the finest buses, limousines, ambulances, flower cars and hearses on the market. Their name flourishes in China, now producing approximately 3,000 buses annually for the Asian market.

This Flxible is one of 50 Starliners built in 1960, and it carries their "new look" for a city transit coach - pioneered by GM and accepted as the industry standard for the next 20 years. This coach features a rear, longitudinally-mounted 471 Detroit Diesel powerplant, an enlarged windshield and double-bay passenger windows. The four-speed manual transmission is rebuilt, as is the engine and the vehicle is offered as being restored approximately 10 years ago. The bus exhibits handsome period styling and is reported to have been cross-country many times without problems.
