Model 08. 200 bhp, 289.0 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine, three-speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission, coil spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Wheelbase: 108.0 in.
One of the original Mustang’s great attractions was the vast variety of cars that could be created on the order list, from stylish boulevard machines to fast, sporting race cars. As the concept matured, the choices were refined, and several popular options were arranged into equipment groups. It was possible to order many of the components separately as well. Thus, it is not unusual to find restored cars with various combinations of features.
This Mustang is finished in its original Wimbledon White. It has black lower body stripes, fog lights, and a luxury blue and white vinyl interior. The convertible top is white vinyl and is covered with a blue boot. The engine is the basic Challenger 200 brake horsepower, 289-cubic inch V-8 with dual exhausts, driving through Ford’s excellent C4 Cruise-O-Matic. Additional equipment includes a power top and added GT cosmetic equipment, a rear deck luggage rack, windshield washers, and power steering.
The craftsmanship and detail is excellent, from door alignment to paint to interior finish. The engine compartment is correctly detailed, and the undercarriage is painted in primer. A few touches from the GT option, however, have been added, including the racing stripes and GT emblems on the fenders, as well as fog lights, a trumpet exhaust, and SS wheels. Additionally, the Mustang retains a remote side view mirror, wood trimmed dash panels, and a GT steering wheel to go with the Pony interior.
Originally ordered from Ford’s Dallas district, the car was restored in 2004 for a prior owner by Sonny Faegin, of Carolina Auto Sales in North Augusta, South Carolina. A large file of restoration invoices accompanies the car. A worthy tribute to the Mustang GT, this car is a handsomely-outfitted sporting convertible.
