When Larry Shinoda and his Corvette design team began work on the new-for-1963 Stingray, it is unlikely that they understood the impact that this design would have on the car world. Long considered a modern classic, the car’s aggressive lines and sleek profile were perfectly suited to its role as GM’s image leader. As well, a broad range of powertrain options and countless racing victories helped the Corvette earn the title of “America’s sports car.” In addition, a long-awaited set of four-wheel disc brakes became available in 1965 and finally provided stopping power to match the car’s acceleration and top speed potential.

The example we have the pleasure of offering here is painted a gorgeous glossy black complemented by steel wheels with stainless steel “spinner” wheel covers and gold-line B.F. Goodrich tires. The paint finish is outstanding with excellent body contours, gaps, and doors that shut very soundly. The brightwork was replated when the restoration took place and shows only minor expected wear, while the engine and bay are appropriately detailed for a driver quality example such as this. The interior is finished in tan leather, with some limited wear, and with matching carpeting and padded dash. Clearly ordered as a car for a driving enthusiast, the only creature comfort option of note is the AM/FM radio; no doubt the order was probably minimalized because the owner wanted to focus on enjoying the thrill of operating the four-speed manual transmission while listening to the throaty roar of the 425 brake horsepower engine as it emanates from the side exhaust.
