Ford offered no fewer than six open body styles for 1936. Of those six, there were two models of a convertible coupe, the Club Cabriolet, with indoor seating for five, roll-up side windows, and a small luggage compartment; and the Cabriolet, which had a cozy driving compartment and an open-air rumble seat for fun-loving passengers. This car is a fine example of the latter.
This DeLuxe Cabriolet has been the recipient of a body-off restoration. It is painted in Vineyard Green, and its body contours and paint are excellent. It has a tan canvas top and a matching boot, which are both in very good condition. The interior and seats are done in brown leather, and all are as new. The engine compartment and undercarriage are well detailed without being overdone. The car has been driven nearly 5,000 miles since the restoration, and it shows some signs of use but presents extremely well. Its hydraulic brakes and subtly installed directional signals make for safe and trouble-free touring.
The Cabriolet greatly outsold its companion Club Cabriolet by three to one. Clearly, the original customers preferred the open-air rumble seat. No doubt the same is true today.
