Seeking to jump-start their relationship with Hertz, Shelby decided to once again produce GT350 H “rent-a-racers” for the 1968 model year in the hopes of bringing just as much excitement and interest to the new 1968 GT350 Mustangs as the program did for the 1966 batch of Hertz Mustangs. Once again, these GT350s would only be available at select Hertz locations to members of the the Hertz Sports Car Club. However, Hertz only ordered 224 examples, which was nearly a quarter of their original order for 1966, making these GT350s considerably rarer than their predecessors and rare within the realm of the 1968 GT350, as only 1,053 examples were built in total for that model year.

This car was one of just thirty-three 1968 Shelby GT350 Hs shipped new to San Francisco, and at that time, it was highly equipped with power steering, power front disc brakes, a tachometer and trip odometer, an AM radio, and a tilt-away steering column, among other options. Following its retirement from rental car duty, it remained in the San Francisco Bay area and was purchased by a private individual who is believed to have owned the car until 2005.

In 2005, under the stewardship of a new owner, the car was subject to a full restoration, during which it was repainted its rare and original color of Candy Apple Red. It is important to note that this Mustang comes documented with its original build sheet, a Marti Report, and receipts that document its restoration, rounding out the pedigree on this incredible Mustang. It is in stunning condition following its restoration and presents as new both inside and out, as it has been driven seldom since in order to retain its incredible condition. This beautifully restored Mustang is perhaps one of the finest examples of its kind, and it would surely attract lots of attention at MCA or SAAC events.
