205 bhp, 317.5 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine, four-speed Hydra-Matic transmission, coil-spring independent front suspension, live rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel power-hydraulic brakes. Wheelbase: 123 in.
When the 1954 Lincolns were being developed, the company was enjoying the fame and fortune bestowed upon them by class wins in the 1952 and 1953 Carrera Panamericana. As the ’54s were largely unchanged from the 1953 cars, except for larger brakes, a third sweep of the stock car class in 1954 seemed achievable. As it happened, the six-car team was beset by many unrelated misfortunes, but one of the team cars and a privateer still managed a 1-2 class finish.
This 1954 Lincoln Capri is a refreshed original car that shows fewer than 50,000 miles. The tan and beige leather interior is original, save for the carpet, and it shows little use. The black paint, chrome, and top were all new in 2007, with the latter in a black canvas and accompanied by a vinyl boot that matches the interior. The paint exhibits a deep shine, and the stainless trim is similarly excellent, as it has been removed and polished.
Equipment on the car includes a Hydra-Matic transmission; power steering, brakes, windows, and top; and a pushbutton AM radio, a heater-defroster, and a dashboard clock. The engine compartment is clean and appears mostly correct, while the tires are BFGoodrich 7.60x15 Silvertown whitewalls.
This Capri comes with trophies from the August 2007 Yellow Rose Classic, where it won its class and was named Best Lincoln. As just 1,951 were built for ’54, this car is an example of the rarest Lincoln of that year.
