Type 964. 260 bhp, 3,600 cc SOHC air-cooled horizontally opposed Type M64/03 six-cylinder engine with sequential fuel injection, five-speed manual transmission with LSD, four-wheel independent suspension, and four-wheel power-assisted ventilated disc brakes with ABS. Wheelbase: 2,270 mm.
The N-Program Carrera RS of 1992, based on the Type 964 chassis introduced in 1990, was a limited-production, high performance version of the Carrera 2 production car. The RS (for Rennsport) was offered in two versions, a true circuit racer, of which 290 were built, and the more civilised street version, of which there were 1,992 examples. This example was the 194th produced in the street version.
The Carrera RS is fitted with the Type M64/03 horizontally opposed, six-cylinder, air-cooled engine of 3.6 litres. The light-alloy case utilises carefully matched pistons and cylinders, electronic engine management, and sequential fuel injection. With single overhead camshafts, the dry-sumped engine develops 260 brake horsepower at 6,100 rpm and 240 foot-pounds of torque at 5,000 rpm. Power is fed through a lightweight single-mass sport flywheel to a close-ratio Type G50/10 five-speed gearbox that has steel synchroniser rings, altered shift sleeves, and taller first and second gears. A ZF asymmetrical limited-slip differential that had been borrowed from the 911 Turbo delivers 20 percent lockup under load and 100 percent lockup under braking. Underneath is Porsche’s sophisticated suspension, comprising of McPherson struts, alloy transverse control arms, coil-over shock absorbers, and an anti-roll bar in the front end and light-alloy semi-trailing arms with coil-over shock absorbers and an anti-roll bar in the rear. The Carrera RS was capable of reaching 100 km/h from a standing start in just 5.3 seconds.
This fine Carrera RS Coupé was delivered new on 22 April 1992 in Reggio Emilia, Italy, to Confezioni Margherita s.r.l., a children’s’ clothing manufacturer in Carpi, located north of Modena, and it was assigned registration plate RE 660966. The car belonged in sequence to three members of the Gozzi family, Ermano, Giorgio, and finally Sandro, who was the director of Commerce and Marketing at the Catholic University of Sacro Cuore - Sede di Piacenza. It was then sold to Vanna Camellini, an administrator at Azzurra s.r.l, which was a women’s’ knit apparel maker also located in Carpi, and then it finally passed to the present owner.
The car is currently finished in its original colour of Polar Silver Metallic (92E), with black RS exterior trim and black and grey sports seats with red safety belts. As is typical of the spartan RS, air conditioning and the rear seats have been deleted to save additional weight, and it features thin black carpeting with red Carrera RS stitching. The car has lightweight door panels with red RS door pulls and manual window lifts and a Blaupunkt entertainment system. It currently carries Italian registration AD991ZL. This Carrera RS also has an ASI registration certificate, number 404548, which was issued on 29 May 2012.
Although it has been driven 57,700 kilometres from new, it has also been carefully and meticulously maintained throughout its life. The car’s service booklet shows services performed by a Porsche dealer in Florence at 5,000 kilometres and ones in Modena at 22,153 kilometres, 45,673 kilometres, and most recently (13 June 2013), at 57,583 kilometres, which included a second change of the brake fluid. All service invoices and related documents are available on file, and the car is supplied with its original manuals in their factory pouch, a correct collapsible spare tyre, a set of tools, and a set of original keys.
This Carrera RS is in exceptional condition throughout and remains a brilliant combination of sleek design, great handling, and lots of very usable power. It is perfect for comfortable high-speed touring or track events.
