From 1948 through 1954, the brilliant XK120 established Jaguar at the forefront of sports car manufacturers with its graceful lines and impressive performance. While approximately 12,000 XK120s were built, its sound original design could easily be improved and updated. The resulting XK140 arrived in late 1954 with a comprehensive list of improvements designed to maintain Jaguar’s appeal, especially in the all-important U.S. market.

Notable upgrades included the addition of precise rack and pinion steering, improved brakes and cooling, plus more cabin comfort and legroom, an improvement made possible by the relocation of the batteries. The most popular model in America remained the OTS (open two seater), otherwise known as the Roadster, and of the 3,350 XK140 roadsters built, only 49 were sold in England. At the US price of $3,745, the cars continued to provide Jaguar’s characteristically excellent value. While the basic 102-inch wheelbase remained unchanged, the bodywork was subtly updated with the widely acclaimed original stylistic elements left intact.

This XK140 MC Roadster is an original left-hand drive, U.S.-delivery example featuring the top-line and very desirable “MC” package, a fabulous option combination comprising the “M” or “Special Equipment” package including a crankshaft damper, wire-spoke wheels, dual exhaust pipes and fog lamps. As indicated by the “C” designation, the 3.4-liter XK engine is equipped with a high-compression “C”-Type cylinder head raising output to 210 bhp. It was completed on April 13, 1956 and purchased new by Mr. Edmund Normandie of Merrimac, Massachusetts. Complete with its matching-numbers engine and transmission, as well as a matching spare wheel and tire, a folding top and a Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust certificate, this XK140 MC never fails to draw attention wherever it goes with its glossy red exterior finish, bright chrome work and black leather upholstery.
