The Porsche 911S Soft Window Targa was a true example of innovation for the German manufacturer. The “Super,” introduced to the 911 that year, brought with it an impressive 160 bhp over the standard 911’s 130-bhp engine. Accompanied by upgraded suspension, including Koni shock absorbers and ventilated brake discs, the 911S was an overall much better performer. All of this weighed in less than the 911 at a featherweight 2,272 pounds.

Another unprecedented addition, 911S offered the first soft window Targa top, which also benefited from a foldaway back window and removable roof section. Some of the 1967 models were actually optioned with hard windows, which means less than the 483 units that were manufactured were original soft window Targas. The first year for the soft window Targa, coupled with introduction of the “Super,” makes a 1967 one of the rarest and most desirable Porsche 911Ss.

The 1967 Porsche 911S Soft Window Targa presented here, with chassis number 500190, is a truly rare and highly collectible automobile. It has recently completed a fully documented, comprehensive restoration by Southern California marque specialists Classic Showcase. The Targa is reported to be both a capable show car and high speed cruiser. The body was stripped to bare metal and completely reworked, then finished to absolute perfection. The correct and original style upholstery has been fitted to the optional sport seats, and the wood steering wheel was restored to exude the same level of craftsmanship as the sleek, pristine exterior. The engine and transmission were restored including a new exhaust system. The gas tank was epoxy sealed and restored. All mechanical components were replaced or restored. The electrical components were gone through, the Bosch driving lights were restored, and a new wire loom was installed. The original Blaupunkt Frankfurt stereo with Hirschmann antenna was restored, converted to digital and even has an iPod jack. Four new tires and restored Fuchs alloy wheels have been installed. Every detail, as attested to in the accompanying restoration DVD, has been adhered to in this superb example.

A California car with a copy of the original pink slip, this Porsche is truly an outstanding example. It is ready for a host of events, be it rallies, slalom courses, a car show or simply a leisurely Sunday outing.
