In its early years of production, the Honda Gold Wing acquired such a following in the United States that production was begun in a factory in Marysville, Ohio. The company’s first North American plant, it predated the Honda Accord assembly line at Marysville by a full three years. Nearly 100,000 American Gold Wing sales in its first four years convinced the company to bring production to North America.
The first model built at Marysville was the GL1100, essentially the earlier GL1000 model with a larger engine and revised suspension. The year 1980 brought a new Interstate model, with fairings, trunk and saddlebags, features previously available only on the aftermarket. The Aspencade model in 1982 added an AM/FM radio and two-tone paint, while floorboards and a CB radio were available as options. The principal design changes were a six-cylinder engine in 1988 and extruded aluminum frame in 2001.
This blue 2003 Honda Gold Wing is in excellent condition. Showing barely 1,000 miles, it is essentially a new bike. Fully equipped with Lexan windscreen, radio-intercom and the standard touring features, it will provide a new owner with all the joys of open-air adventure.
