Specifications: 999 cc DOHC liquid-cooled Desmo V-twin, six speeds.
The 998R had a different crankcase from the standard 998, with a deep oil sump. It also had a more radical cam and an even more oversquare configuration with 104x58.8 mm bore and stroke. This meant it displaced 999 cc and was very similar to the next generation 999R motor.
The 998R developed from the 2001 996R, which was the first real Testastretta. Only 700 were sold, which was all that were needed to homologate the bike to race in the World Superbike Championship. The factory race version of the 998R (F02) won the 2001 championship, ridden by Troy Bayliss.
The red 998R offered here is in as-new condition, with only 144 miles indicated. It is #635 of a limited edition of 700. The fairing is not currently on the bike but is included in the sale.
