Specifications: 996 cc fuel-injected, water-cooled DOHC Desmo V-twin, six speeds.
The Ducati 996 was developed in 1999 from the 916, which led to the 955, on which Carl Fogarty had dominated the World Superbike championship in the mid-’90s. The distinctive under-seat exhaust set a trend that was to be copied by almost every other manufacturer. The fuel-injected Desmo V-twin developed 122 horsepower and could propel the bike to 161 mph. Forks are upside-down Showa, and both front and rear suspension are adjustable. The brakes are Brembo discs, and wheels are Marchesini five-spokes, with a single-sided rear swing-arm. Three models of the 996 were built, and the bike on offer is the base Biposto, which offers a passenger perch. It is in very clean condition with nice paint and is considered a classic by all Ducatisti.
